Karen Ashby is a consultant with international ministries, civil and defense
agencies, science and technology, and education communities working with clients including business and IT consulting. She is the Managing Director in Boise for Slalom Consulting, a 3,000 person west-coast based company that is headquartered in Seattle and recently opened their first international office in London.

Karen also served as a Strategic Planning Director at Nike, Inc. in Portland,
Oregon, among other leadership positions for the organization. Prior to her work in the private sector, she served as Chief of Staff to the United States Deputy Secretary of Education and as an assistant to the Staff Secretary of the White House. After graduating from Willamette University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in politics, Karen’s years with the Executive Office of the President included leading a state-wide battleground campaign, hosting the 2000 Inaugural ceremony in the US Capitol, handling the honorary chairmanships and presidential awards for the President of the United States, public service in the west wing of the White House during 9/11, international and domestic travel on Air Force One, as well as a senior-level leadership administration position. Her focus in education eventually led to her work abroad, helping to shape organization and technology systems on the international level as a management consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton. Through Booz Allen, she supported the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) while traveling abroad to the middle east for client engagements.

Her career has also included a post abroad at the Supreme Headquarters of Allied Powers of Europe (SHAPE) at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s (NATO) headquarters in Mons, Belgium, while she earned graduate credits in Brussels, Belgium and researched international political systems at the European Union. She completed her graduate work through Johns Hopkins University, George Fox University, and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Executive Program. She was born and raised in the Treasure Valley and lives in Boise, Idaho with her husband and daughters, since 2005.
